Smoke’s billowing out of Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen. The fire response forced the closure of East Franklin Street for a portion of Friday afternoon. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews reported seeing smoke coming from the building “soon after power was restored,” officials said in a release. The fire was under control within 30 minutes.Ĭontractors were in the area working to restore power to the building after storms rolled through Chapel Hill on Thursday. ![]() Friday and smoke was pouring from the building on East Franklin Street. Looking at other reviews, maybe we caught them on a bad day, but that one day was enough to make two people not want to return for a second try.Chapel Hill Fire officials are investigating a fire that occurred at Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen on Friday afternoon.Ĭrews were dispatched to the scene around 1 p.m. However, if you are going to be open and serving food, it is still a reflection of you and your establishment and this was a poor showing. I will admit part of our issue might have been that we visited around 130 PM, just an hour before closing. Being from outside the area, we felt at the time we purchased that $25 for that amount of food was very reasonable. The chicken on both biscuits were real chicken breasts, hot and moist so they were cooked well. The good: While it was not good enough for me to try again even if I wanted to return, the apple fritter was “warm” which is more than I could say for the hash browns. ![]() Last for my drink combo I had a tea/lemonade mix, it has a strong after taste similar to where it was stored had not been cleaned recently. Unfortunately for us, it seemed the only seasoning used here was salt, which is all we could taste, a shame because as well as the chicken was cooked, it lacked flavor. The hash browns with my combo were very greasy and not even warm, it was as if they had been sitting for a long period of time waiting on someone to order them. The gravy while looking like it had sausage had zero flavor and was like eating watered down flour. The bad: Both of our biscuits were very dry. Once we received our food, we drove away and ate about a block away, so the food was consumed in our vehicle about as close as you could get to SBK. I had the bad grampa (it is how it is spelled on the menu) combo and their “new” apple fritter. We wanted to try a wide sample of what was offered, my wife had a chicken biscuit with a side of gravy. Like a lot of people note, it is drive thru only which I thought was a cool feature and should have allowed them to focus just on their food and not having to serve and clean up a sit-down dining area. I can see how this could be a place that people have been visiting for a long time and is a cult classic to them. ![]() While visiting for 5-days, this is a place I found on trip advisor and could not wait to try. ![]() This is not going to be a popular review, but it reflects what my wife and I had there at Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen (SBK).
